Mastering Course


This course provides the training necessary for qualified individuals to teach Building Organizational Capability, Foundations of Capability and Building Excellence courses (e.g., Building Development Excellence, Building Services Excellence) and High Maturity Concepts course. This course reviews the details, format, and methodologies required to teach official CMMI courses.

An approved application and completion of pre-course assignments, which include an eLearning modules, reading the required text, and preparation of presentations, are required for this course. Applications must be received 12 weeks before the start of the course, to allow sufficient time for application processing and completion of precourse assignments.

  • Use of outcome-based instructional techniques to effectively support student mastery of introductory CMMI course objectives.
  • Demonstrate accurate CMMI model knowledge and leverage industry examples to supplement course content.
  • Describe how to use or tailor CMMI course training materials to plan and teach CMMI courses.

Who should take this course?

What do I need for this course?

The course is composed of lectures, class exercises, and in-class presentations by the students, with time allotted for student questions and discussion. The format of this course requires that candidates actively participate and must be present for all class time. Students are evaluated on their pre-course assignments, class participation, and in-class presentations and practice sessions.
 

Prerequisite Information

Before registering for the CMMI Instructor Training course, students must:
  • Pass the CMMI Professional Exam.
  • Submit and obtain approval for an Instructor certification application along with all the respective documents required to enter the program and demonstrate the required experience.
  • Gain sponsorship from a Licensed CMMI Partner.
  • Be an Appraisal Team Member (ATM) on at least 2 recorded appraisals within 24 months of the training course
  • Be able to read, write, and speak understandable English. You will not pass this course if you cannot demonstrate this requirement. If you are a non-native English speaker, we strongly recommend that you provide your TOEFL score as demonstration of this prerequisite. Throughout the course, you will be required to present and discuss technical concepts in English.

Precourse Preparation
Eight weeks before the course, registered students will receive information about their precourse assignments. The assignment is to be completed in advance of the in-course instruction and will serve as input to the hands-on exercises introduced in the classroom. Completion of the precourse assignments are required to proceed with the in-course instruction.

What do I get from this course?

  • A certificate of completion. 
  • Completion of a prerequisite requirement to become a Certified CMMI Instructor.
  • Become a Candidate CMMI Instructor and move into the Observation phase of earning the CMMI Instructor Certification.
  • Once certified, the ability to teach Building Organizational Capability, Foundations of Capability, Building Development Excellence, Building Services Excellence. In order to teach a High Maturity Concepts course, you must be a Certified CMMI Instructor and a Certified CMMI High Maturity Lead Appraiser.
