CMMI AIM

COMING JULY 2026: The integrated maturity model that systematically improves AI capability at scale to drive business growth, gain a competitive advantage and boost stakeholder confidence.

CMMI AIM Assess Your AI Maturity

Organizations frequently invest in AI technologies, isolated governance frameworks, and consulting-led implementations that address discrete aspects of AI capability.

Without unified structure and defined maturity progression, these efforts are difficult to scale, measure, or validate at the enterprise level.

The results? Fragmented execution, siloed and inconsistent oversight, and diminishing return on AI investment.

CMMI Artificial Intelligence Maturity, or CMMI AIM, is a maturity model within the CMMI framework that integrates fragmented AI practices and standards into structured AI maturity progression and defined capability levels with independent appraisal—providing the enterprise foundation to govern, align, and maximize the value of AI technologies and platforms.

What is CMMI AIM?

Chaos & Risk → Structure & Cohesion → Validation & Trust → Value & Growth

CMMI AIM provides a clear, structured pathway to progressive AI maturity:

  • Integrate fragmented AI practices and standards into a unified framework with shared language including cohesive adoption, governance and structured maturity progression
  • Leverage AI opportunities to drive business growth and gain a competitive advantage
  • Manage AI risk with governance techniques designed to prevent vulnerabilities and threats associated with rapid AI adoption
  • Build executive, shareholder and stakeholder confidence as AI evolves

CMMI AIM allows streamlined adoption across organizational processes—including data, security and other critical business enablers—above and beyond technical development, supported by a comprehensive set of model assets:

CMMI AIM content was developed by the CMMI AI Working Group, a globally representative, multi-industry body sponsored by IBM Global and including over 25 executives, practitioners, instructors, lead appraisers, and subject matter experts.

Their charter focused on researching and curating industry best practices related to AI, machine learning, automation, ethics, DevSecOps, testing, threat analysis, and advanced manufacturing, and translating those practices into actionable CMMI Model content. Additional valuable insights were gathered from over 100 companies through structured community and internal reviews.
